#3 Global Game Jam 2025!
Day 1 at Global Game Jam 2025 – The Adventure Begins!
Today was the first day, and we immediately assembled our fantastic team: two experienced programmers Mr Minimal and Kelteseth, two artists KiraCodez and JoeyGartain, one all-rounder TobyMoby, and myself as a beginner and Social Media Manager for this blog.
This year’s Global Game Jam theme is: Bubbles!
Our first big idea is called Bubble Odysea. In it, you take on the role of a solitary air bubble making its way through the depths of the sea - rising ever higher, ever farther, past breathtaking coral reefs and dangerous hazards. By tilting your smartphone, you guide our delicate bubble through maze-like levels. Sharp starfish or treacherous currents may lie in wait around every corner, and if you collide with them, your bubble might burst or be otherwise affected. Thankfully, you can find smaller bubbles to replenish your strength - since sometimes you even have to shrink on purpose just to squeeze through narrow passages. The game will be Android-only and is conveniently controlled by tilting the phone.
This is our player model! :D We called him Bubble Buddy.
To get things rolling immediately, we set up a shared GitHub Repository, where you can check out our progress any time. The artists started working on level design and character models on day one, while the programmers dove into the Godot Engine 4.4 Beta1 to lay the groundwork for our deep-sea dream.
Sometime before midnight, we settled into our makeshift sleeping arrangements, ready to dive back in on Day 2 of the jam with renewed energy. I’m already head-over-heels for our little bubble adventure and can’t wait to finally get my hands on the first playable levels!
